Volnovakha and Donske are cities in the Donetsk region that were destroyed by continuous shelling and are on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe. The shelling of the cities does not stop. For the seventh day, people have been trapped in basements under destroyed buildings, without access to drinking water and food. It is virtually impossible to contact them now. There is no water, gas or electricity in the city, it is also not possible to bring food. There are dead and wounded: from children to the elderly!

Currently, there is an armed conflict in Ukraine. Russia calls the conflict a "special operation." But the whole world understands that a full-scale war is being waged against Ukraine with all the consequences for the civilian population.

In 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law under which Russia effectively withdrew from the Geneva Convention on the Civilians, an international multilateral agreement aimed at protecting victims of armed conflict. However, Russia, as a party to the conflict, says it is not attacking civilian infrastructure. At the same time, all available facts suggest the opposite.

We call on the Red Cross, the United Nations and all other international organizations and governments, as well as the parties to the conflict, to organize the safe evacuation of civilians from the affected territories as soon as possible, in order to ensure humane treatment and protection of civilian rights.
