Northern oblasts

Kyiv

The capital is preparing for the new school year. One of the city's priorities is to resume offline education. To improve the conditions for students and increase the number of places in the simplest shelters, this year the corresponding works are being carried out in 437 educational institutions. Currently, special commissions are monitoring the shelters and premises of all educational institutions regarding the possibility of their use as simple shelters. Then they will draw up facilities’ assessment reports.

An evening in memory of Andriy Babinskyi, a soldier and founder of the Vyshyvanka Megamarch, was held in Kyiv. The participants wearing embroidered shirts walked from the monument to Yaroslav the Wise near the Golden Gate to the Wall of Memory. As reported by the Vyshyvanka Megamarch project, Andriy Babinskyi died at the front on August 8. It happened near the village of Chervona Krynytsia, Orikhiv Raion, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Sumy Oblast

On August 16, 244 explosions were recorded in seven border communities of the Sumy Oblast as a result of russian shelling. Two houses and a truck were damaged, and a horse was killed in one of the shelling attacks.

At night and in the morning, the russian military shelled three communities in the Sumy Oblast: Bilopillia, Seredyna-Buda, and Khotyn. In total, 55 explosions were recorded. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties or damage.

Eastern oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

This morning the enemy shelled the village of Kivsharivka, Kupiansk Raion. A garage was damaged and there was a fire. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

Shelling of settlements in the Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Izium and Kupiansk raions continued last day.

At least 4 private houses were damaged as a result of the attack with guided aerial bombs on the village of Cherneshchyna in the Izium Raion.

The enemy attacked the village of Rohan in the Kharkiv Raion with two missiles, presumably Kh-22. They hit the ground, causing no damage or casualties.

In Vovchansk, Chuhuiv Raion, a private house and sports infrastructure were damaged by shelling.

A private house was destroyed and a fire broke out in the village of Pokaliane, Chuhuiv Raion. 

In the village of Petropavlivka, Kupiansk Raion, a private house was damaged and a fire broke out. 

A wildfire broke out near the village of Velyka Rohan in the Kharkiv Raion due to shelling.

A private house was damaged as a result of shelling in Kupiansk. A man of about 55 years of age was seriously wounded and later died in hospital. Law enforcement officers are establishing the details of the tragic event and identity of the deceased. 

Over the last day, pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service surveyed more than 3 hectares of territory and defused 81 explosive devices.

Donetsk Oblast

On August 16, russian troops shelled 15 settlements in the Donetsk Oblast. The shelling damaged residential buildings, a gas pipeline, power grids, a kindergarten, a factory, and cars, the Donetsk Oblast police reported.

Two residents of the Donetsk Oblast were wounded over the past day.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the russians have killed 1,661 civilians of the Donetsk Oblast, and wounded another 4,011 people. The number of casualties in Mariupol and Volnovakha is still unknown.

Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion

In the Lysychansk sector, two houses were damaged in the Zvanivka community: in Zvanivka and Pereizne. Two houses were destroyed in Siversk. The Lyman community was shelled 8 times. No casualties have been reported.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion

On August 17, russian troops conducted eight massive attacks on Avdiivka, and also heavily shelled the city 18 times yesterday.  

Sporadic shelling was recorded in the area of Krasnohorivka and the outskirts of the Ocheretyne community.

Eight men, who sustained shrapnel wounds as a result of a double missile attack on the city on August 7, still remain in the hospital in Pokrovsk.

Volunteers of the Smart Medical Aid fund provided three hospitals in the Donetsk Oblast with blood gas analyzers. Pokrovsk, Selydove, and Kurakhove received this equipment, which is required for rapid diagnostic test during surgeries for seriously wounded patients.

Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion

In the Horlivka sector, two houses were damaged in Pivdenne and Toretsk in the Toretsk community. A high-rise building, an industrial building, and 4 garages were damaged in the Chasiv Yar community.

Today, in the Bakhmut sector, fighters of the Air Force anti-aircraft missile forces unit shot down a russian Ka-52 helicopter.

Volnovakha and Volnovakha Raion 

In the Volnovakha direction, one person was injured in Vuhledar, a house was damaged in Bohoyavlenka.

On August 16, the Ukrainian military was successful in the direction south of Urozhaine of the Donetsk Oblast, and is consolidating on the achieved boundaries.

Southern oblasts

Mykolaiv Oblast

Yesterday, August 16, the enemy fired artillery at the water area of ​​the Ochakiv community. There are no casualties.

In Mykolaiv, the Pervomaisk, Voznesensk and Bashtanska raions, the day and night passed relatively calmly.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The russian army fired 80 times on cities and villages of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast during the past day, August 16. Almost 20 settlements were under fire.

The russian military established a field hospital on the territory of a civilian house in the temporarily occupied village of Shevchenkivske in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Currently, more than 30 wounded occupiers are being treated there.

The russian Ka-52 helicopter crashed in the vicinity of the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast. It was eliminated by the military of the 47th separate mechanized brigade.

Odessa Oblast

France condemned the attack by russian drones on the Reni Sea Trade Port in Odesa on August 16 as russia continues to obstruct grain exports and endanger shipping in the Black Sea.

In Odesa, a man who spread information about the movement of the Defense Forces in the oblast was sentenced to five years in prison. He sent media files to his friends and relatives living in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and russia. His activities were exposed by the Security Service of Ukraine.

Six streets in Odessa are proposed to be renamed in honor of the soldiers who died during the full-scale invasion.

Kherson Oblast

Since the beginning of demining works in the de-occupied territories of the Kherson Oblast, sappers have demined 59,000 hectares of land out of 508,000 potentially mined.

Residents of the Kherson micro-districts flooded as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovska HPP by russian troops may be left without heating in winter. There is still no electricity and gas in the Korabelny neighborhood, and restoration work is not being carried out due to shelling.

The court will consider the case of the secretary of the "Union of Kherson Mothers" created by the occupation authorities. She is suspected of collaborative activities. The woman faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The suspect voluntarily cooperated with the russian occupiers, repeatedly gave interviews to pro-russian media and published videos in which she discredited the Ukrainian authorities and justified the armed aggression of the russian federation.

Volunteers of the "Proliska - Kryvyi Rih" center handed over 40 construction kits for emergency repairs to the residents of Zmiivka in the Kherson Oblast Since the beginning of the year, philanthropists have sent 15 humanitarian cargoes to the Novoraisk community.

Transformers were delivered to Kherson, thanks to which the energy workers will be able to restore the light faster. They were purchased by the Kherson Community Fund "Protection" charitable organization.

Central oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

One dead and six wounded. This is the result of yesterday's enemy attack on the Mezhova community of the Synelnykove Raion. Rescuers extinguished three fires. 49 private houses were mutilated. An agricultural enterprise, an educational institution were damaged. Broken cars.

The enemy shelled Nikopol and the Marganets community with heavy artillery. A 63-year-old man was injured. He received a mine-explosive injury and a shrapnel wound. Cafes, 14 residential buildings, eight farm buildings, cars and five power lines were damaged. 40 solar panels were broken.

In the morning, the enemy attacked the area with missiles. 10,000 residents of the Novomoskovsk district were temporarily left without electricity.

In Kryvyi Rih, after the destruction of the Kakhovska HPP, 70% of consumers remained without water. Water supply has already been restored in all areas of the city.

A car purchased from the city budget was handed over from Nikopol for the needs of the military.

More than 20 streets were renamed in Dnipro.

Kirovohrad Oblast

The Oleksandria City Territorial Center received a special car for the transportation of people with disabilities. Transport was delivered to the community by the charity organization "Friends of Oleksandria''. The money for the car was donated by the residents of Batu. The car is equipped with air conditioning, a special mechanism for lifting wheelchairs, seat adjustment and fasteners on the floor, which will help to fix a bed or a wheelchair with a disabled person.

On August 18, a honey fair and an exhibition-fair "Volunteer Craft" will be held in Kropyvnytskyi. The participants will sell honey, cheeses, seasonal berries and fruits, products made by volunteers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Part of the collected money will be sent to help the army.

Poltava Oblast

In Poltava, the project "Own business" is starting to operate as part of the implementation of the government program "eRobota". It provides a grant to participants in hostilities, persons with disabilities as a result of war and their family members to create or develop their own business. Western Oblasts

Volyn Oblast

In the village of Blahodativka in the Kherson Oblast, volunteer builders from Volyn have already repaired the roofs of 14 houses. Another 10 are on the way.

Automated systems for opening doors to bomb shelters and shelters are being installed in seven educational institutions in Kovel. UAH 94,000 were allocated for this from the city budget. This decision was made due to the lack of staff on duty at schools at night and on weekends.

Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Kamianets-Podilskyi

Residents of the community handed over two NISSAN PATHFINDER cars for units in which Kamianets residents serve. One car was delivered to 21-year-old volunteer paramedic "Fialka" in the Lyman direction, the other to a fighter of the assault brigade "Agronom" in the Bakhmut direction. About UAH 470,000 was spent on the purchase, repair and maintenance of cars. Food, hygiene products, medicines and fuel were also sent to the front line.

Chernivtsi Oblast

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, awarded Mykhailo Murzak, a resident of the village of Kyseliv, the Verenchany community, with the "Silver Cross" badge of honor.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, posthumously awarded Ivan Droniak from Vashkivtsi and Dmytro Buchatskyi from Milievo with the Order "For Courage" III degree.

In Bukovyna, UAH 229.7 million were allocated from local budgets for the seven months of this year to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Chernivtsi Oblast Military Administration held an extended working meeting with the participation of representatives of Ukrenergo, critical infrastructure enterprises, local self-government, and Bukovyna energy companies. They discussed key issues in preparation for the heating season, the security situation in the oblast and Ukraine in general.

Since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, almost 5,000 residents of Bukovyna, who sheltered internally displaced persons, have received compensation in the total amount of UAH 49.1 million.

In 2023, more than 740 internally displaced persons applied for and received services from the oblast employment service. More than 200 people are employed.

Bukovyna received humanitarian aid - 26 washing machines and 31 electric boilers for a total amount of over UAH 500,000. The equipment came from the International Organization for Migration within the project: "WASH - water, sanitation and hygiene". It is planned to direct it to the institutions of health care and social protection of the population where the internally displaced people live.

The Mahala orphanage received a specialized car from the German district of Swabia.

Society "Kolping Family Chernivtsi" donated clothes, shoes, and hygiene products to the Petrychanka psychoneurological boarding school.

Ternopil Oblast

An anti-radiation shelter is being set up at the Zbarazh college with enhanced military and physical training. It is designed for 740 people.

Zakarpattia Oblast

A new checkpoint with Romania will be opened in the Zakarpattia Oblast. It should appear between the settlements of Bila Tserkva (Ukraine) and Sighetu Marmaţiei (Romania), which are separated by the Tysa River.

283 employers of the region will receive compensation for the costs of employing IDPs. The Zakarpattia Oblast Employment Center continues to review applications from employers for compensation of labor costs for the employment of internally displaced persons.

By the Independence Day of Ukraine, almost 6,300 residents of the Zakarpattia Oblast will automatically receive one-time cash assistance. It is intended for war veterans, participants in hostilities, victims of Nazi persecution, citizens who have made special contributions to the Motherland, and some other categories of persons.

Five bicycles and an exercise bike were transferred to the oblast hospital in Uzhhorod for the rehabilitation of the wounded. The equipment was brought from Lithuania by the Public Organization "FORZA" with the assistance of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania. The Ministry of Veteran Affairs "Sector" in the Zakarpattia Oblast joined the initiative.

The coordinator of the AUI "Active Community" conducted the training "Basic skills of non-conflict communication for consensus building". Its goal is to teach citizens to build dialogue, find allies and create initiative groups to solve urgent community problems.
