Air and missile strikes on military and civilian targets in Ukraine continue. Today is a day especially rich in air alarms.

In the Volyn, Polissya and Siversky directions, the situation remains unchanged. On the Siversky direction, the enemy shelled the Tovstodubove, Shevchenkove, and Zapsillia settlements of the Sumy oblast with barrel artillery.

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy shelled the districts of Kharkiv, Svitlychne, Slatyne, Ruski Tyshky and twenty more settlements with barrel and rocket artillery. Used aviation for strikes near Verkhniy Saltiv, Pryshyb, Rubizhne and Odnorobivka.

In the Slovyansk direction, the enemy affected the areas of Slovyansk, Dolyna, Brazhkivka, Bohorodychne, Krasnopilla, Kostyantynivka, and Dibrivne with the fire of barrel and jet artillery. Made an unsuccessful attempt to attack in the direction of Nova Dmytrivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, artillery shelling was recorded near Siversk, Hryhorivka, Spirne, Ivano-Daryivka, and Verkhnyokamyanske.

In the direction of Bakhmut, the areas of Kostyantynivka, Bakhmut, Soledar, Vesela Dolyna, Bakhmutske, Mayorsk, Shumy, Zaitseve, Vasyukivka, Kodema, Bilogorivka and Yakovlivka were hit by the enemy's barrel and rocket artillery. The enemy tried to destroy important objects in the areas of the cities of Soledar and Bakhmut with air strikes.

The occupiers tried to improve the tactical position in the direction of the settlements of Soledar, Bakhmutske and Kodema. They were repulsed and retreated.

In the Avdiyivka direction, the enemy used barrel artillery and multiple rocket systems for shelling in the vicinity of Avdiyivka, Alexandropil, Opytne, Vodyane, Novobakhmutivka, Krasnohorivka, and Nevelske. The areas of Mar'inka, Oleksandropil and Vodyane settlements were hit by enemy airstrikes.

With offensive and assault actions, the occupiers once again tried to establish control over the settlements of Pisky and Nevelske. They did not have success, traditionally suffered losses and left.

On the Novopavlivskyi direction, enemy aircraft strikes were recorded near Volodymyrivka, Pavlivka and Novomayorskyi.

Defense forces of Ukraine repelled the enemy's offensive in the direction of the settlements of Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Pavlivka, and Velyka Novosilka.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy shelled the areas of Novopole, Mali Shcherbaky, Orichiv and fifteen other settlements with barrel and rocket artillery. Areas near Novosilka, Poltavka, Novopole and Dorozhnyanka were hit by enemy aircraft.

The enemy naval group in the waters of the Black and Azov seas continues to perform the task of blocking civilian shipping in the northwestern part of the Black Sea and damaging military facilities and infrastructure elements in the depths of the territory of Ukraine.

In the South Buh direction, the enemy, with the aim of deterring our troops, shelled the territory along the contact line from the available means of fire damage. Used aviation for strikes on the areas of Trudolyubivka, Andriyivka, Potyomkyne, Oleksandrivka, Lozove, Velike Artakove and Bila Krynytsia settlements.

Made an unsuccessful attempt to attack in the direction of Mykolaivka. Ukrainian soldiers inflicted losses on the enemy and pushed them back.

Northern oblasts

Kyiv

Yesterday, the Head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, met with Karolina Lindholm Billing, a representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ukraine. They discussed the reconstruction of partially destroyed buildings in the Kyiv Oblast. Within the framework of joint agreements with the Kyiv OMA, the organization is already engaged in the restoration of a number of houses in the Makariv and Borodianka communities in the Kyiv Oblast.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, João Cravinho, visited Kyiv today.

Boris Johnson also visited Kyiv today. He announced the provision of a new large package of military aid to Ukraine.

An ecumenical prayer for Ukraine was held in Kyiv’s St. Sophia Cathedral. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena also took part in the prayer.

Ecologists of the international charitable organization "Ecology-Law-Man" came to Chernihiv to examine the crime scenes of russians: they take soil samples, conduct photo and video recording of the affected enterprises and natural sites.

On August 23, russian troops fired at the Semenivka community in the Chernihiv Oblast. The enemy shelled the community with a 120 mm mortar. Border guards recorded two hits.

From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on August 24, russian troops shelled the Novhorod-Siversk and Koriukivka raions five times.

A man from the village of Rubanka, Nizhyn Raion, is suspected of helping the russian military with supplies and accommodation. He faces punishment in the form of a fine of 170,000 hryvnias or imprisonment for a term of three to five years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of ten to fifteen years and with confiscation of property.

Sumy Oblast

Yesterday, the russian military shelled the territories of the Esman, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, and Velyka Pysarivka communities of the Sumy Oblast. In total, more than 80 hits were recorded.

On August 24, at 5 a.m., the russian military opened fire on the outskirts of the village of Bachivsk, the Esman community in the Sumy Oblast. At 9 a.m., the shelling ended in the Znob-Novhorodske community.

Eastern oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

Yesterday at around 9 p.m., the enemy shelled the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv with MLRS. Residential buildings were damaged. A 38-year-old man was wounded.

Around 11 p.m., a missile exploded over the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv. Residential buildings were damaged, a fire broke out. The windows of a house in the Novobavarskyi district were shattered.

At night in Kharkiv, medics hospitalized a 33-year-old woman with a blast injury. Her 5-year-old daughter was so severely stressed because of the shelling that she also needed the help of doctors.

At about 00:30 at night, the enemy launched a missile attack on the village of Dokuchaievske of the Rohan community. An outbuilding was destroyed and a massive fire broke out.

Over the past day, the enemy shelled the settlements of the Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, and Bohodukhiv raions. Outbuildings were damaged in Kharkiv. A 61-year-old civilian was injured. Forest wild fires broke out in the Chuhuiv Raion due to shelling. Yesterday, the enemy massively shelled Tsyrkuny of the Kharkiv Raion. Four sites of the village caught fire at the same time. Farm buildings, outbuildings, fences and grass were on fire. Residential and farm buildings were damaged. A 59-year-old man was injured.

Donetsk Oblast

During the day, the russian occupiers inflicted 26 strikes on the Donetsk Oblast, shelling 12 settlements. They used aircraft, artillery, tanks, Grad multiple launch rocket systems, and missiles. The invaders destroyed and damaged 24 civilian facilities: 20 residential buildings, a school, a spa, and power lines.

In the Sloviansk sector, the enemy carried out artillery shelling not far from Krasnopillia and Mazanivka. The invaders tried to conduct reconnaissance near Bohorodychne. Ukrainian soldiers inflicted fire damage on the russians and forced them to flee.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the enemy fired from tube and rocket artillery in the areas of Siversk, Zakitne, and Rozdolivka. Russians conducted aerial reconnaissance using UAVs near Zvanivka and Raihorodok.

In the Avdiivka sector, the enemy fired artillery of various types near Maryinka, Pisky, Netailove, Krasnohorivka, and Zalizne. The occupiers launched an airstrike not far from Nevelske. The enemy fought offensive battles in the direction of the settlements of Pisky and Nevelske, but had no success.

On August 23, russians killed 1 civilian of the Donetsk Oblast — in Bakhmut. 2 more people were wounded.

Since February 24, the russians have killed 759 civilians of the Donetsk Oblast and wounded another 1,952. 

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsky district

The city of Avdiivka withstood 9 enemy attacks.

The last day in the Pokrovsk community was relatively calm. There are no facts about the victims and the destruction for the past 24 hours.

Despite the fierce shelling, a Ukrainian flag attached to balloons was launched into the sky in Avdiivka this morning. A blue-yellow flag 20x15 meters was sent into the sky by the military shouting: "Glory to Ukraine - Glory to the Heroes." In the balls were placed leaflets for the occupiers with instructions on how to surrender to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The flag from the center of Avdiyiivka flew in the direction of Pisky, where fierce battles are taking place.

Immigrants from Pokrov ask the President of Ukraine to regulate the cost of housing rent. A petition has been prepared and launched.

Bakhmut

In the Bakhmut direction, enemy shelling was recorded in the areas of the settlements of Bakhmut, Soledar, Zaytseve, and Bilogorivka. The enemy waged offensive battles in the direction of Bakhmutskyi and Kodema. There was no success.

Mariupol

Residents of Mariupol in the occupied city are outraged by the work of the "DPR" police. Its representatives rob drivers, demand money, threaten to confiscate the car and send people to the basement of the commandant's office. And all this with a machine gun in hand, which is demonstratively reloaded.

Luhansk Oblast

In the occupied Luhansk region, 55% of men were forcibly mobilized.

Active hostilities are taking place in two villages of the Luhansk region - settlements are constantly moving to one side, then to the other.

Southern regions

Mykolaiv Oblast

Yesterday, enemy artillery fire was recorded outside the village of Shiroke in the Shirokiv community. Around 12:00 there was an air raid. Included in one residential building, agricultural buildings in the household and in open areas. Around 17:00 and throughout the night, there was shelling outside the settlements on the territory of the community. There are no casualties.

Today, around 01:00, the Russians of the Yavkin Starostyn district of the Bashtan community were shelled. There are damaged houses. The number of destructions is being specified.

Shelling of the territory and nearby settlements of the Berezneguvat community continues. The village of Vysunsk came under fire. Tonight, at around 01:00, the occupiers shelled the village of Berezneguvate. As a result of the shelling, two two-story residential buildings were destroyed and a fire broke out.

In the morning, at 04:30, there were enemy shellings of the town of Novy Bug, Novobuzka community. It is known that as a result, a fire broke out in the roof of a two-story residential building and several other buildings were damaged. According to preliminary information, 9 people were injured, including 2 children.

Odesa Oblast

The day in the community passed peacefully.

Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day.

In Odesa, the installation "Childhood 2022" opened in memory of Ukrainian children who died at the hands of the russian occupiers. The author of the project is the famous sculptor and artist Andrii Lyubov. The composition consists of 363 (that's how many children died during the enemy aggression in Ukraine) military helmets with flowers, placed on 121 anti-tank "hedgehogs". Each helmet and flower symbolizes a child's soul. Ukrainian children painted helmets. According to the mayor, it is planned to send the installation to the partner city - Venice.

An exhibition of destroyed russian equipment is being held near the 411 coastal battery memorial park.

People are united and active, engaged in volunteering. The situation in the community is tense due to the threat of rocket attacks.

The coordinator of the Ukrainian Initiative "Active Community" provided information to citizens about receiving psychological, social and humanitarian assistance.

Central regions

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

At night, 2 Kh-22 missiles hit private houses in the suburbs of Dnipro. The rockets left a crater with a diameter of 15 m and a depth of 4 m.

Manganets was fired at from barrel artillery. Spouses were injured. They received medical assistance and are being treated. 2 residential buildings were destroyed. 14 residential buildings and 6 commercial structures were damaged. A food enterprise, a car and 2 power lines were mutilated.

Nikopol was shelled twice - from barrel artillery and "Grad". 20 shells were fired in the city. The home was damaged.

The Chervonogrigorivsk community of the Nikopol district was covered with barrel artillery. 1 residential building and 1 farm building were destroyed. 2 residential buildings, 4 outbuildings and a car were damaged.

Enemy troops were fighting with "Uragan" in Karpivska and Shirokivska communities of Kryvorizka district.

In the Synelnyk district during the day, a rocket destroyed a private house and significantly damaged neighboring houses. 2 children were injured.

On the morning of August 24th, a brief official ceremony marking the Independence Day of Ukraine was held in Dnipro. The leaders of the city and region, clergy, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and rescuers laid flowers on the stelae, where the names and faces of Ukrainian defenders are immortalized.

On Independence Day, the artists of the Dnipropetrovsk region staged a bright patriotic performance. In Dnipro, the actors of the Drama and Comedy Theater went to the nearby Opera and Ballet Theater with a large blue canvas in their hands. There, colleagues met them with an unfurled yellow cloth. Together they formed a huge State Flag measuring 25 by 16 meters. The artists named the action "Muse of Independence". Students of the art college of culture also joined her.

Kirovohrad Oblast

In the community, one after another, air-raid alarms were sounded, and there was a threat of a rocket attack on Kropyvnytskyi. Currently, the situation in the communities is calm and under control.

Celebrations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine took place in Kropyvnytskyi near the monument to Taras Shevchenko. The event was attended by the leadership of the city, region, law enforcement agencies, and the clergy, who laid flowers at the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

On the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine, a contest of drawings on the asphalt "Ukraine through the eyes of children" was held near the Oleksandriysk City Museum Center. Museum employees invited the children to recreate the Ukrainian state as they imagine it. In a short period of time, the children created incredible beauty - state paraphernalia, national symbols, as well as a large map of Ukraine, painted in national colors, appeared on the asphalt. Little artists embodied their ideas and fantasies with the help of chalk, trying to show adults their dreams and desire to see a peaceful Ukraine.

Anatoliy Stoyan, regional coordinator of the Active Community in Kropyvnytskyi, on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine, (in the interval between the air alarms) in the center of the city, not far from the shelter, held an action: "Independence beats in our hearts", during which the townspeople and resettlers (about 30 people) had the opportunity to express their thoughts and record them on a sticker - a heart: "Why do I love Ukraine?". Adults and children noted that they love their native Ukraine for its independence, unity, dignity, people, indomitability, freedom, courage, honor, power, will, the feeling of a native home, the "Dream is an airplane", Kherson watermelons, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the President. They were unanimous in the fact that Ukraine will definitely win the war against the russian invaders because the independence of Ukraine beats in every Ukrainian heart! Participants received patriotic postcards and badges from the organizers to commemorate their participation in the festive event.

Vinnytsia Oblast

During the air alert, residents of the oblast heard the sounds of explosions. There is already official information: Serhii Borzov, head of the Vinnytsia oblast state administration, announced that air defense is working in Vinnytsia. The aerial object has been destroyed.

Zhmerinka

The mayor of the city congratulated the residents on the Independence Day and urged them to be especially attentive and not to ignore the air warning signals.

Citizens are concerned about constant reports of provocations on Independence Day. Today, everyone is especially vigilant, some institutions are not working. And some institutions warned in advance that they will not work on August 23-24.

In general, everyone is tense, the oblast was generally calm, so the downed missile caused concern.

Khmilnyk and Khmilnyk Raion

Throughout the day, air raid signals sounded. The enemy "congratulated" Ukrainians on Independence Day with rocket attacks. The day was relatively calm in the Khmilnyk community.

A letter of thanks to Ivan Oleksandrovich Kulak, a native of Khomutyntsi, who is currently fighting for Ukraine, was sent to the address of the Kalynivska City Council of the Khmilnyk raion, with the following text: "The command of the military unit informs that your countryman is a true patriot of his Motherland, exemplary and fulfills his military duties directly in the war zone. In his person, Ukraine and your territorial community have a reliable and courageous defender."

Today, the Interregional Coordination Humanitarian Headquarters sent another batch of aid to the Kozyatyn community of the Khmilnyk raion. The humanitarian cargo includes oil and stewed meat, previously corn grits, sugar and flour were received. In the coming days, the help will be distributed by volunteers among those who need it. It can be obtained from humanitarian headquarters.

The coordinator of the AUI "Active Community" of the city of Khmilnyk and Khmilnyk raion communicated via the Internet with internally displaced persons who settled in the city of Chervonohrady, with the aim of holding joint events.

Western Oblasts

Lviv Oblast

The enemy twice threatened with missile strikes. The dangers did not materialize.

Another 399 internally displaced persons arrived in Lviv on two evacuation trains.

695 people went to Przemyśl from Lviv Oblast by four trains.

23 thousand 289 people crossed checkpoints in the Lviv Oblast on their way out. 18 thousand 536 Ukrainians entered.

The premiere of the performance "CRY OF THE NATION..." of the Donetsk Oblast Academic Drama Theater of the city of Mariupol took place in Lviv.

In Stebnik, new apartments were built for displaced persons. The first of them already received the keys to their temporary homes today. These are 32 completely renovated one- and two-room apartments with an area of ​​38 to 52 square meters. About 150 people from the territories where military operations are taking place will be able to live here. The total cost of the object was 25 million hryvnias. In total, there are 4 objects in the Drohobych raion that are being converted for the residence of displaced persons. Among them, one more premises in Stebnik, and one each in Boryslav and Drohobych. In Stebnik and Boryslav, the premises are also at the stage of completion. Another 125 people can be accommodated there. Later, there are 650 more people in Drohobych.

Rivne Oblast

The general situation is relatively calm, as of 2:30 p.m. there were two air alarms.

In Rivne, letters were received about explosives at three objects: the railway station, the old bus station and the Sahaidachny market. The explosive devices of the national police, rescuers and the Security Service of Ukraine went to inspect the objects. At 1:25 p.m., the head of the Rivne Oblast Military Administration reported that all facilities had been inspected, no explosives had been found, and the facilities had resumed operation. 

"Storks of memory". In the Bilokrynytsia community, a mural was dedicated to the National Guardsmen who were killed by a rocket attack on the Antopil television tower. Local artist Valentina Tyshkun depicted the site of the rocket strike and 21 storks as a symbol of each person who died as a result of the tragic morning of March 14, 2022. Strong and independent Ukraine is also depicted in the image of a woman dressed in the country's brightest colors. 

Chernivtsi Oblast

In the course of the day, the air warning signal sounded five times in the Chernivtsi oblast.

Celebrations for the Independence Day of Ukraine took place in Chernivtsi. The event began with a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers. All those willing placed flowers at the plaque in memory of the dead. They also held a prayer for peace in Ukraine. 

Oleg, an ethnic Moldovan from Novoselichchyna, returned from abroad to defend Ukraine from russian troops. The man fought in the Kharkiv oblast, where he was wounded. Now he is undergoing treatment, and after that he is ready to continue serving. 

In the village of Romankivtsi of the Sokyryan urban community, children collected over 23,000 hryvnias for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in one day. The children set up a checkpoint at the local railway station and very convincingly told everyone who passed by that the Ukrainian army should be supported. 

Inna Pashanyuk, regional coordinator of the AUI "Active Community" in Chernivtsi, met with representatives of the charity fund "Volunteer Defense Headquarters of Ukraine" to hand over a poster with wishes to the soldiers to be sent to the front lines and to discuss the possibilities of further cooperation. 

Zakarpattia Oblast

At the highest mountain search and rescue post on Mount Pip Ivan, the Ivano-Frankivsk National Academic Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko staged a performative play "Battle for Ukraine".

"Train to Victory" has arrived in Uzhgorod: "Mariupol", "Iron Men", "Energodar - the city of heroes". Ukrainian artists painted 7 passenger cars of the "Kyiv-Uzhhorod" train with such inscriptions and associative images. Each car is dedicated to the temporarily occupied territories and the bravery of Ukrainians.

Monuments of the totalitarian communist regime are being dismantled on the Hill of Glory in Uzhhorod.
